Skrova Island Evening Cruise

A different kind of ferry to Skrova Island

At 16:30 we depart from Svolvear and leave the mainland of Lofoten behind to an off-the-beaten-path destination; Skrova Island. During the short journey over, our guide will give you an introduction to Skrova island and inform you about interesting things to do.

Upon arrival we will dock in front of Fotobrygga restaurant, a 200-year-old charming wooden building and the oldest operating Brygga on Skrova. For many years it has been the main meeting place for locals and tourists alike. Here you can collect your food pack if you pre-ordered one and set off on your adventure on the Island or return at 20:00 for a delicious optional 3-course dinner in a cosy and traditional atmosphere.

Skrova Island Evening Cruise

Explore Skrova Island by foot, bike or kayak

If you’d like to know more about the history and culture of Skrova, you can join one of the people from Fotobrygga for a short cultural walk.

Looking for more of an adventure? Hike up Skrovafjellet, the islands main ‘mountain’. At the top you will have great views of the surrounding. All the way back to the mainland of Lofoten.

You can also rent a bike and go around the island and see Skrova Lighthouse and the ‘art tunnel’. If you’re more of an ocean person like us, you can also join a 3-hour Kayaking tour around the pristine beaches with crystal clear waters.

Once you’re finished exploring you can return to Fotobrygga for a delicious dinner in a cosy and traditional atmosphere. If you’d like to embrace the island lifestyle and stay the night you can book a room at Fotobrygga and return to Svolvær with us on the next tour!

Skrova Island Evening Cruise

A detour back to Svolvær in the evening sun of Lofoten

At 22:00 we will depart for our journey home, but not before we take a tour around Skrova Island with hybrid-electric boat. Enjoy the late evening light with a drink on our outside deck or from one of the warm saloons with panoramic windows. Keep your eyes peeled for the white-tailed eagles that have made uninhabited dotted island around Skrova their home. If weather allows, we will deploy our underwater drone to explore the hidden world under the surface of the sea in one of the many turquoise coloured bays.

We will arrive back in Svolvær around 23:30.

Skrova Island is the hidden gem of Lofoten

Even though the nickname of Skrova Island is “Hawaii of Lofoten” it is still a hidden gem and off-the-beaten-path destination since it is not possible to reach it by car, unlike many other islands in Lofoten. Skrova technically consists of (parts of) 6 islands, but the fishing village of Skrova lies mainly Heimskrova.

Skrova Island gained the nickname “Hawaii of Lofoten” due to its many pristine beaches with crystal clear and blue water. It is also said that due to its location, Skrova is less rainy and receives more sun than the rest of Lofoten. Sadly this does not mean that the water temperature is similar to Hawaii.

Is Skrova Island full of millionaires?

Rumour has it that Skrova Island has the highest density of millionaires in Norway, thanks to fishing!

The ancient fishing village of Skrova gained privileged trading rights in 1760 and was the largest fishing centre in Lofoten for a long time. It has a rich history with thousands of people flocking to Skrova during the fishing season to partake in the salmon, cod, skrei and whaling.

The hight of Skrova was in the ‘70s and ‘80s, when the fishing industry was at its peak. Nowadays the Skrova has only just under 200 inhabitants and there is only one fishing factory left on the island.
