Tromsø - Electric Northern Lights Cruise

The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon that we sadly can't guarantee. It depends on the Northern Lights activity and cloud coverage in the region of Tromsø, something that is entirely in the hands of mother nature. We can see the Northern Lights on our Aurora Dinner Cruise, however, seeing the Northern Lights can be anything between a faint line in the sky to a big dancing show and that's something that is hard to say even if we have completely clear skies. We invest in making the trip as comfortable for you with our spacious and warm saloons where you can enjoy your dinner and our guides will share stories and local knowledge with you. Please understand that we are therefore not able to provide a refund if we do not see the northern lights.

In order to see the Northern Lights, you need 3 things:

1. It needs to be (semi) dark outside,
   
2. It has to be (partially) clear sky,
3. There need to be Northern Lights activity.

While number 2 and 3 are very difficult (if not impossible) to predict accurately, number 1 is a little easier to answer. Since Tromsø has the midnight sun, it is impossible to see the Northern Lights between mid-April and late August. Between late August and early April it is dark enough at night to see the Northern Lights. In the first and last few weeks of this period, the nights are shorter so the chances are a little lower to see the Northern Lights.

Other than that, we believe that no particular month is better to see the Northern Lights than another. There are some other things to consider: September and October are usually without snow and less cold, while between mid-November and mid-January we have polar night and it is dark earliest. February and March often have more snow.

What is more important and has a bigger impact on your chances of seeing the Northern Lights is how long you are staying in Tromsø.

Yes, we have a minimum of 8 guests for our tours. We always strive to do a tour on every day within the season, but sometimes there are too few people booked. In these cases, it is both financially but also ecologically unsustainable to do a tour with our ship. When this happens we will always offer you to reschedule your tour to another day if possible, or we provide you with a full refund.
